Summertietop (english)
This knitting pattern is in english
The Summertie Top is a loose summer top that is open on both sides and is tied with ribbons. It is worked from the top down in brioche stitch with contrasting details that are formed by increases and decreases in the front. First the back yoke is worked back and forth with increases at both ends of the work. You finish the back first, before stitches are picked up and knitted for the shoulders, which are worked separately and then joined to form the front yoke. You finish the front and then the edges of the top are rounded off with an I-cord finish. Finally, stitches are picked up to form the ribbons, with which you tie the sides of the top together. You can decide whether you prefer them as a double knitting or also as an I-cord ribbon.
The Summertie Top has almost no finishing, except the threads need to be weaved in. The length of the top, as well as the number of ribbons, can be individually by your own taste.
It is very important to make a swatch before you start knitting your top. Please note that brioche stitch is difficult to measure due to its elasticity, it may also increase slightly in circumference over time or after repeated wear. The Summertie Top is a real all-rounder and can be styled for almost any occasion.
Difficulty: intermediate beginner/ advanced
SIZE GUIDE
Sizes: 1 (2) 3 (4) 5 (6) 7
Bust circumference finished Top: 76 (81) 86 (91) 96 (101) 106 cm
Length (measured mid front, without neck): 43 (44) 45 (46) 47 (48) 49 cm
The Summertie Top should be knit with a negative ease of 4-9 cm. The sizes 1 (2) 3 (4) 5 (6) 7 are designed for a bust circumference of 80-85 (85-90) 90-95 (95-100) 100 – 105 (105-110) 110 – 115 cm. Bevor you start knitting, take your own measurements to determine the size that best fits you. For example: If your chest (or the widest part of your body) measures 97 cm, you should choose size M. A Top in size M has a bust circumference of 91 cm and will give you 6 cm of negative ease.
If your chest circumference is exactly in the range between two sizes, it doesn't mean you can't knit the top. It is up to you to decide whether you want to wear your summer top looser or more fitted by choosing a larger or smaller size. Please also bear in mind that the size you choose for yourself will also affect the size of the side slit of your top.
